Rocky Mountain National Park Guide

Rocky Mountain National Park hits home for me. It is where my husband and I got married and it was the first national park that I took my little boy to when he was three months old. Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP) is the most popular national park in the state of Colorado. It is accessible year-round and each season has a different beauty in the rockies! I love visiting in the winter and hiking across the frozen lakes! Follow along for important tips for visiting RMNP.

Trail Ridge Road that goes all the way from the east entrance of the park to the west entrance usually doesn’t open until Memorial Day each year. It typically closes in September-October due to snowy conditions. The summer is the busiest time of the year in this park so plan accordingly! You need to make a timed-entry reservation to enter the park from May-October. You can reserve a day and time-slot beginning on May 1. Reservations are found at recreation.gov

The photo in this image was taken at Chasm Lake in the month of August right after a hail storm.

There is a lot to do in Rocky Mountain National Park! Camping is another activity you can add to your bucket list. Keep in mind that you need to reserve campgrounds ahead of time. Most of them start reservations six months ahead of time!

The best place to see moose is on the Grand Lake entrance of the park on the west side. I typically see 4-6 moose in one drive in June or July!

Wildflower season is typically late June to early August.

Microspikes are a MUST in the winter! The snowy trails get packed down with all of the foot traffic and it gets really slippery! In the summer, rain gear and layers are a MUST! The weather can change so quickly in the Rockies and it can also snow in the Summer!

This memory makes Bear Lake and Dream Lake so special to me. The photos of our wedding are amazing, and yes it was COLD! If you want to have a wedding in RMNP, you can fill out a special use permit here.
